Do you know what is PCOS?
PCOS or Polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine condition affecting almost 20% of the women population. It occurs as a result of an increased level of androgens, or male hormones in women. PCOS affects about 2 – 20% of the female population mostly at the age between 18 and 44, depending on which symptoms are used to define it. Usually, the factors which cause the occurrence of this condition are genetic and environmental. In most cases, PCOS has a wide range of symptoms which makes difficult for the doctors to diagnose it.
A recent study claims that Polycystic ovary syndrome is linked to insulin due to the fact that this condition is common in women who are facing high insulin levels. This condition is a risk factor for some diseases such as hypertension, sleep apnea, diabetes, heart disease, and even some types of cancer.
